Heidelberg Materials Gent completes first phase of Verapazbrug in Ghent

Our client, Heidelberg Materials Gent (formerly Inter-Beton Gent), recently played a key role in the construction of the new Verapazbrug in Ghent. This bridge will connect the Muidelaan with the Afrikalaan, creating a crucial traffic link over the Handelsdok. The project aims to improve mobility around the busy Dampoort area.

Ghent Aggregates supplied BENOR-certified Bovenrijn gravel, essential for the high-strength concrete needed for the bridge’s first phase. The materials were delivered directly by ship—a logistical challenge due to the weather sensitivity of the concrete. Thanks to careful planning and coordination, Ghent Aggregates ensured on-time delivery. Additionally, a truck was on standby to redirect part of the load to Dendermonde, where the central plant acted as a backup to ensure continuous concrete production.

This collaboration highlights Ghent Aggregates’ reliability, even in demanding conditions, and its crucial contribution to this strategic infrastructure project.
